Beautiful Card Using Our Vintage Image

Stamped For The Occasion, http://otomys.wordpress.com/, has made a lovely card using the vintage big hat lady.  I love seeing what others have made using the images and I am so happy Amelia shared it with me.  I, in turn, will share it with all of you so you can see what is possible with  the simplest graphic.  It is so much fun to look at and admire the creativity of others.  I hope this will inspire me to begin making cards and such once more.  I have recently decoupaged photos that I have scanned and printed onto canvas.  They turned out quite well.  Also, have done some paper dolls along with their dresses on canvas.  These are so sweet.  I want to get several of them completed.  I glued a strand of twine on one and sort of put the dresses as if they were hanging on a clothesline behind the doll.  I cut two of the paper doll and stuck one on top of the other with glue dots to make it stand out.  It was so pretty.
Till next time, be sweet!

Sweet Old Valentines

sweet little boy and girl in airplane

tiny tea cups, heart background
                                                              red puppy with hearts

Just in time for Valentine's Day ... three cute little valentines!  These remind me of the days we made boxes in grade school from shoe boxes to hold our valentines.  We glued wrapping paper or  pictures cut from magazines and catalogs onto the boxes, decorating them with ribbons, buttons or whatever we wanted.  I always thought they were so beautiful and carried mine home carefully after we had traded Valentines at school.
I would look at them for hours till at last I grew tired of them and moved to something else.  I never tire of the sweet innocence of the old cards.  They are quite different from the ones today.
Enjoy ... be sweet and always treat others as you would like to be treated.

Happy Children, Snowmen and Angels

It's been such a long while since I have posted an antique card or old image of any sort.  I hope to make up for it in part today by posting several old Christmas cards and plan to put new graphics up for all of you who love them as I do.  I have missed the sweet comments and some of you, I almost feel as if I know personally.
I appreciate all of you who take the time to read what I write and look at what I have posted for you.  I want you to feel free to use them in any way you would like.  There are no terms of use and I do hope they will become part of an art or craft project.
Christmas is happy children, snowmen, angels ... I will be using all in future postings.
(Oh, and we mustn't forget the jolly old elf himself, Santa!)

sweet baby Christmas card, about 1925 or 1926, I believe

old Christmas card with child and toys, quite different from the toys of today
little girl praying while Santa quietly watches and sweet little bedtime friends wait on her pillow
children caroling while angels look at a single angel lounging on a crescent moon, beautiful
I just know you will use these in some gorgeous project you already have in mind, waiting for the perfect image to come along.  Enjoy them and share them.  They are not ours to keep but to be enjoyed by all.
Be sweet!!

4 Old Valentines

Thought I better get these posted before Valentine's Day!  I had surgery Wednesday and am better, but will have much more to be done and probably take most of the year to complete and not sure if they can fix some things ... that's okay if they can't!  I am grateful to be here and grateful for the many blessings in my life.  Still can't get over the fact that I am a great grandma!  I love it and feel SO lucky!!  Many never have the pleasure of even one, and here I am with 5 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN!!!  Don't know what I've done to deserve my good fortune, but this I know ... those little angels are my heart, they have caused a light in my world that nothing can extinguish, how grateful I am and how very much I love them!  I hope I can make them all valentines.  It may not mean much now, but in 30 years they will (I hope) treasure the handmade cards from their great grandma ...
May love, peace and joy fill your day and ... be sweet!!  XXOOX

More Old Valentines For You

Just a few more of the gorgeous old valentine cards for you.  They are just too cute and, though not exactly like those of today, they have a quality about them that I don't find in today's valentine cards. Somehow, they seem to convey the childhood innocence of little ones.  I remember how we laughed and compared, showing our valentines to all our friends.  We were so proud and they were absolute treasures to us!!  I could hardly wait to show mine to my grandmas.  Being grandmas, they acted every bit as excited as I did!!  Isn't it funny?  I do the same thing today.  You are free to use them as you wish or right click to bring up original size, print on cardstock and, voila ... your own set of old valentines.  I have found it works much better to use an ivory or something lightly sepia in a cardstock to bring out the "old" quality in them or take them to you digital imaging program to change the colors slightly if you would like.  Anyway I hope you like them as much as I do.
Be sweet and remember to always treat others as you would like to be treated.

An Assortment of Vintage Images

Does anybody remember a washing machine like this?

A mother holding her child ... simpler times

old time ad

Dear friends, I have here quite an assortment of free vintage images!  I usually try to share images with similiar qualities, but, as you see, I don't always succeed!
I do believe my favorite is the vintage wringer washing machine.  My mom washed clothes in a wringer machine, but it was totally different from this picture.  It was sparkling white and I remember we had two large square galvanized tubs that we used to rinse the clothes in.  They required two rinsings to be certain of removing the harsh compounds that were used in those days.
Oh, what wonderful memories come rising up as I think of 'wash day'!  It was usually an all day event.  Mama used the cleanest rinse water to then mop the kitchen floor and last of all, the board floor of our screened in back porch.
I always helped her hang the wash on the clothes lines in the back yard (a clothes line graced every yard I knew of).  My dad had strung them as tightly as possible and it was fun to slide the cloth clothespin bag along the line with a clothespin in my mouth, ready to pin the next garment to hang silently in the sun or blow in the wind.  Windy days were good 'wash days' as the towels were much softer when whipped about on a soft breeze, fluffing the nap.
Goodness, I could go on forever, but I do hope thes images please you, that you can use them in some way.
Be sweet and always treat others as you would like to be treated.

Babysitting in Ten Degree Weather

Abigail and me

Well, this is a little different that what I usually share with you, but it is SO special I couldn't keep it to myself!!
This, apparently, is the way I babysit a great grandchild while the parents go out for an evening of  dining and having a quiet meal together, thinking all the while their precious little angel was safe with me, snug as a bug in a rug.  HAH!!!
I am the only one snug and warm ... I couldn't believe it when my grand daughter showed me the photo she had snapped when they returned home.  They had come home and found both of us sound asleep alright, only I was the one who was snug, wrapped up in the blanket, with both the doll and bottle over by me and poor little Abigail was scrunched up half frozen in nothing but a diaper!!!
Brittany said, "Oh, Grandma, I had to take the picture!  The two of you were so cute!"
I am sure she covered Abigail and placed her bottle and doll  back where it belonged!  Maybe she will give me another chance!!!  I will have Abigail a big picture made of this, mat it, frame it and give it to her one day.
Peace and blessings to all and have a wonderful New Year!!!

Shoregirl's Creations Printable Recipe Cards

After visiting Shoregirl's Creations, I was in awe of her creativity and ability to design!  She has some of the most beautiful creations I have seen and had left the kindest, nicest comment on my blog, so I felt I could ask her if she possibly could design some vintage recipe cards for me!  They were posted to her blog today and are absolutely perfect for what I need!!
I have downloaded every single card, plan to personalize them for my daughters, daughters in law and grand daughters.  I will put some of our family favorites on several of them, then add some blank cards so they can add their own favorite dishes to the set.  I will tie them with a ribbon and put their names on handmade tag, tied to the ribbon.
I know the girls will love them!  They are very sentimental and will love having their mom and/or grandma's handwritten recipes in the years to come.
Bless her sweet little heart, she designed 6 of them and I plan to use every one many times over!  A simple 'thank you' seems so inadequate, so I wanted to share with you what she had done for me and they are there for you as well.  Please go look at them and I know you will want them for yourself or to give to others.
I am posting  a couple of the cards so you can see how beautiful they are.

A Trio Of Angels

Angel Children with flowers

Believe ...

Little Christmas Angel

As you all know, my favorite photos, images or graphics are those depicting angels.  I don't know why I feel such a connection to angels, so drawn to them, when I have no idea what they truly look like or even if they are tangible ... all I know is they hold a fascination for me that cannot be denied, nor will I even try.
They are mentioned so often in the Bible, yet no one really knows how they would appear, if it is something we sense, can touch and feel or just believe in ... I am no one to question.
I do have a great love for all vintage, victorian and antique images.  I also especially like old ads and signs, vintage children and the lovely ladies of that day.
I hope I have given you something you can use to make a beautiful work of art.  I would love to see some of your projects and would post them for all to enjoy if you would like to share a picture with us.
As always, be sweet and treat others as you would like to be treated.

Vintage Angels

Little angels with scroll

Angel with mother and baby

Angel children with sleeping child

Angels overlooking lady on bench

Thought all you artists and crafters needed some angels to work with, seeing as Christmas is drawing closer day by day.  I know you will find something to make, something to alter, something to craft using these beautiful angels!
I saw a Pringles can being used as a spaghetti holder the other day and I plan to make one.  The can was not painted or decorated at all and, though I know angels would not be suitable for such a project, I wanted to tell you all about it.   It is a great idea that I had never thought of.  I am going to spray paint mine black, then mod podge kitchen images onto it and add white dots with the end of a brush around the top and bottom of the container.  I made a sugar canister in this way, using a plastic coffee can and it is VERY pretty and useful as well.  I hope you have lots of fun.
Always be sweet and treat others as you would be treated!  XXXOOOXXOOX

Okay, an old label and an angel!!  Both are such sweet images and sure to be of use in one of your art projects, a collage or whatever your little old heart desires.
I hope you like them as much as I do.  I particularly like the little angel as I love all angel graphics and every piece of art that includes an angel!

Angel Babies And Vintage Children

little baby angels

little girl (looks like she is pouting about something)

little girl & boy with wooden wagon & doll ... skirt on the little boy, common in those days

The image of the angel babies is adorable and I absolutely LOVE the following two photos of vintage children.  I don't think the first little child wanted her picture taken or something had made her very unhappy or angry from the look on her face!  Also the second old photo is SO cute with the skirt on the little boy and there is something about the wagon with the doll that is special ... so different from what our little children play with today.
My own children usually played more with the box a toy came in than the toy itself, especially my boys!  Times have certainly changed, some for the better, but lots of things I would have liked to see remain as they were, the gathering and visiting of families and friends doesn't seem to be the same as it once was and I miss those times.  Life was simpler I believe and though I am aware progress is inevitable and good for the most part, some of the old ways of life definitely are better than today in my view.
