vintage ad that makes me wonder 'what in the heck were you thinking?'

I have taken Grove;s Chill Tonic, but believe had I  seen this ad as a child, NOTHING could have forced my mouth open!

Well, it would seem not all vintage graphics are as sweet and precious as those of the innocent little wide eyed children and the lovely old images of angels with wings outspread!  However, these old ads are as much of our past as the simple beauty of the florals, the sweet valentine cupids, playful children and graceful ladies ... though the message is not one we would send today, they are a part of our history, a piece of our past and therefore should be looked at, proud of how far we've come.
They will still be used I believe in works of art, altered art, ATC's, whatever ... they may or may not be of use to anyone ... they DO depict a time when the thinking was much different than today.
That is my reasoning, for it is a time we have all come from.  I do hope you have found them to be of interest, if nothing else ... you gotta' give them that ...but a baby shaving, a fat pig with a child's face ... I ask again, "What in the heck were they thinking?".  Boggles the mind!
Be sweet and look for angels tomorrow!!!  Treat others kindly, give them a reason to smile!!

My New Blog Design By Kaye of WAHMaholic Blog Designs

My dear, sweet little friend, Kaye Mendez, of WAHMaholic Blog Designs has done a complete makeover of my humble little blog!!  I absolutely did not recognize it. 
She has done a fantastic job and aren't the graphics beautiful?  Don't you just love the little blue flowered cart filled with purple flowers?
She says she is wicked awesome, but don't take her word for it!!  Numerous testimonials speak of her work, which is fantastic.  Just give her an idea, even the slightest, of what you might like or want and she can take it and run!!!  Quick as a wink, before you can blink twice, you have a blog that totally stands out and makes you wonder how in the world did Kaye know EXACTLY what I wanted?
I am pleased as punch and now have to search my files for something to post for you.

Okay, so I have been playing again when I should have been doing something more productive, like um, housework you think?  I don't mind the housework, honestly, but it is SO much more fun to busy myself creating these lovely angels on beautiful background paper with a few embellishments and some text, I just can't seem to stop myself now and then!!!

This is a photo of one of my great grand daughters, Carlee.  I am making heritage scrapbook albums for all my children and I keep getting sidetracked playing around with the little ones!!  I LOVE making the photos look pretty and I tell them Grandma spends most of her time playing with them in my computer!!  At the rate I am going, I will never get the albums finished but I will certainly have a stack of pictures for my great grand children, so they will know how very much I love them!!!!

I love these tiny angels!  I believe all of you who love working with graphics of any sort will as well.  These would be beautiful in a collage, as the main feature of an ATC or any number of other artsy crafty projects you might think of.  I am sure you can think of ways to use them that I could never imagine as I am not as creative as I once was.  Those who are blessed with creativity are lucky indeed. I do consider it a blessing, as we all know you are SO intent on whatever the project may be, any worries or troublesome intrusive thoughts seem to vanish as your hands become busy, your mind settles into a deep, contented place of peace.

Sweet Funny Old Card and Old Gas Stations

looks almost like the single gas station in the little community I grew up in

Don't you love the look on this little boy's face and how funny is the message?!

 The card has nothing in common with the old photos, but I think it is just too sweet and cute, I couldn't save it for a later post!
The days when a gas station attendant not only pumped gas, but washed windshields, checked the oil and water and even put air in the tires if they were a bit low are gone forever.  He then took the money inside and brought back any change we were due!! Those days are memories now, good ones I would say.
When I was a teenager (about 100 years ago, it seems) a couple of girlfriends and I would pool our money, buy fifty cents worth of gas and ride all afternoon!
When gas finally went to $1.00 a gallon, most rural pumps and lots in cities only went as high as 99 cents. With no other resolution, the poor owners of the stations set their pumps at 50 cents, then doubled it when you had to pay. Many customers were not at all pleased and were forced to listen unhappily to the reasoning behind it.
Times have certainly changed, I will say and I'm not sure it has all been for the better!!!!!

I love these old ads, especially the menu.  Can you believe there was a pressed ham sandwich on a menu not all that long ago?  It is fun to see how times have changed, not always for the better!!

These are three of the cutest little images.  They are too sweet!  I love the old fashioned clothing and the look in the eyes of the children in the old photos. They speak to us of another time and another place, a time when life seemed to be led at a slower and simpler pace.

I couldn't resist posting this digi art piece I put together of my great grand son, Christian!!!  I love playing with my photos and have started long ago making heritage albums for my children, but I keep getting side tracked with those sweet little great grand children's pictures!  They are just too cute and I want to reach right into the computer and pull them out!!
I tell their moms that I play with them all the time on my computer and it is so true.  Try, hard as I might, when I start on the pictures, those little children tug at my heart strings and I have no resistance whatsoever!
I am soon off in another world playing with their photos and making what I think to be works of art.  It is only because they are my own, but ....  it is pretty with Christian placed in the palm of a hand and being looked after by his very own angel!!

The artist who created these sweet images is Nellie Benson.  They were published in "A Flower Book" in 1901.  

I love the sweetness and innocence of the little girls and the beauty of the flowers.  They are the perfect size for a note card or a card front.  They are beautiful just as they are and would be so pretty in nostalgic frames strung in a group, one below the other.  

However you decide to use them, I know they will enhance any craft or art.  I have yet to use them in any way except to look at and enjoy, but, with the holidays fast approaching I just know they will turn up on something.

Here are three more Christmas images for you.  I hope you like them.  My favorite, as you probably already know, is the bottom card, with the angels.  There is just something about angels that I dearly love and don't have a clue if that is what they really look like, nor does anyone else.  It is nice to imagine they do ... and, who knows, they may appear exactly as we depict them in the images. 

Sometimes, when I close my eyes at night, right before I drift off to sleep I imagine a room full of angels, some of them bending over me so close I can almost feel the wings touch my skin.  Then again, is it really my imagination?  I sometimes wonder, but for whatever reason, there is no desire to open my eyes, perhaps for fear it IS imagination, though in my heart  I know for sure it is not.

Here are three sweet old Thanksgiving cards.  Aren't they quite different from those available today?  They have such a charm that I don't often see in the modern Thanksgiving card.  I have said it before and I will say it again ... sometimes I think I was just born in the wrong century!!!

November ATC Swap

Hi dear friends!!!  I am a member of  Blissfull ATC Swap, where we are designated swap partners each month and create cards from a particular theme.  This month was artist's choice.  My swap partner this month was Penny Plum of Palaver From Pellie & Genghis Khat.  This is such a lovely, lovely blog and Penny is more talented that I realized!

Beautiful ATC Penny made for me.  The lacey look around the tiny cameo is quilling.  It is so beautiful!

I am in awe of the ATC I received from her in the mail today!  She made a special card just for me after looking at my blog, Angels In My Garden!!  It is purple and came encased in its own little box!  It is beyond beautiful and I love it, love it, love it!
I am posting the card for you all to see and posting the one I made for her.  It is such fun creating these tiny pieces or art.  I am very new and not as accomplished as I would like to be.  I have only made a few, but it has been very relaxing, peaceful somehow to get caught up in creating something for another!

When There's Nothing To Laugh About, Laugh Anyway!

These two pictures are quite different from what I usually post, but we all need a good laugh now and then!  Doesn't that tree have the most unusual shape you ever saw?  I think it is hilarious!
Also, the poor deer hunter, oblivious to the big buck standing right next to him reminds me of my husband.  He always loved to hunt and fish, but he was a big sports fan as well.  I remember once he took a battery radio with him to the deer woods, where he sat quietly in his deer stand, radio volume turned ever so low and went fast asleep!!!  It was just too funny when he came home, sheepishly recounting his afternoon of "being one with nature".  He didn't even know who had won the game!
